Avoid making basic errors of judgement by following these simple debt management program tips
Here are some of my favourite debt management program tips to help you avoid some of the unscrupulous operators out there...
Be wary of credit counseling organizations or debt management programs that:
- charge high up-front or monthly fees for enrolling in credit counseling or a debt management program.
- pressure you to make 'voluntary contributions', which is often just another name for fees.
- refuse to send you free information about the services they provide without requiring you to provide personal financial information.
- try to enroll you in a debt management program without spending time reviewing your financial situation first.
- offer to enroll you in a debt management program without teaching you budgeting and money management skills.
- demand that you make payments into a debt management program before your creditors have accepted you into the program.
These may sound like obvious and easy pointers. But, as so often in life, many people make the basic of mistakes. Try not to be one of those people by following these debt management tips.
