What Things Should You Seek To Avoid In A Debt Management Program Service?
What sorts of things might be included in a debt management program service, that you may not wish to see?
The debt management industry is huge and is very, very lucrative. For my sins, during my days as a mortgage consultant, I never found it to be particularity well paid, but that is because I was working in the acceptable side of the industry. Had I worked in the bad debts or adverse credit market, where the public perception is much lower, I'm sure I'd have earned much more...
There are now many different avenues of assistance which might be offered as a part of a debt management program service. These include: Credit Repair Clinics, Debt Reduction, Debt Negotiation, Deciphering Credit Reports and Debt Consolidation. Let's take a look at a few of these.
Deciphering Credit Reports
Credit reports can be confusing and intimidating but there should be very little reason for someone of normal intelligence to be confused. Credit reports come with an explanatory leaflet to guide the reader. I'm sorry to say that if you have the report, the leaflet and a brain, you should be able to understand it yourself. If you need to pay someone to interpret it for you, it is a sign of lazyness and not over complexity.
Credit Repair Clinics
Some notable consumer groups for debt management issues strongly suggest avoiding credit repair clinics of which many are illegal. Some have been caught stealing the credit files of people under the age of 18, people who have died, or live in far away areas. Others break into credit bureaus and change files, and still others suggest you start a new IRS Employer Identification Number which besides being illegal, blocks you from earning any Social Security benefits. However, the real issue (even for the legal operations) is, that none of them can do anything for you that you cannot do for yourself, except charge you somewhere between $250 and $5,000 for unnecessary services.
These are only two of many parts of a potential debt management program service that you could likely do yourself much more quickly and for free!
