What Is Credit Card Debt And What Can You Do About Yours?
Credit card debt is a real and very serious problem for a great many people.
If you have or have had in the past a credit card you will know some of the oddities of the market. Initially, it is quite difficult to get your first card. You need to pass a credit score, fill in a monumental application form and then wait whilst your bank manager eyes you up and down suspiciously.
But once you have your first card it all starts to change. As you make regular payments, the bank decides to trust you with more money and a higher credit limit - whether you ask for it or not.
Soon enough, you have proved yourself to be a reliable sort and your limit is several times what it first started as.
Suddenly, your mailbox is flooded with forms, special offers, lower rates and competing deals. You are now able to get a card with almost any firm in the country. Sure, you still have to fill out the form, but acceptance is far more likely now that you have a track record.
Notching up a collection of cards for the 'special' deals is easy to do. I know many people that carry five or more cards, 'just in case'.
However, having all these cards presents a problem for many people. For the first time in their lives, many people, especially the young, are given the same (or greater) spending power as their parents. This can lead to over indulgence and quickly living beyond their means.
Unmanageable credit card debt is just around the corner. For many, money can be used from one card to pay the monthly bills on another card. Taking from Peter to pay Paul, as the expression goes.
